When the day of Pentecost came, the twelve disciples, now with Matthias, were together in one place. Suddenly, a sound like a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house. And they saw what looked like tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.On this day of Pentecost, we remember Christ’s great promise to us. Before he ascended from the earth, he said to the disciples:
Note: This litany has been adapted from Psalm 20:6, Revelation 5:12, and Romans 8:34.Loving God, merciful Father, we wonder at your surpassing goodness, but we are discouraged by the evil we see in this world and in ourselves. We long to be your humble and faithful servants, but we always fall short. Even when we think we are doing your will, we are often deceived. How long before you bring an end to the world’s suffering?How long, O Lord?
