Loving God, You Hold All Things: A Prayer of Confession

Loving God,
you hold all things in your hands.
We are small.
We feel insignificant when we consider
all that you are and have done.

Lord, we are broken
as creation is broken.
Our words are not adequate
to describe the pain and the sorrow we cause fellow humans
and the harm to your beautiful earth.
Along with creation, we groan with deep sighs.

We confess our part in the brokenness.
We have no ability to fix this mess we have made.

We need you, God.
We cannot do it on our own.
We’re tired of trying.

So today, we lay down our pride.

We lay down our weapons.
We lay down our desire for power.
We lay down our words of division.
We lay down our anger.

We need you, God.
Purify our desires.
We need you, God.
Make us agents of your shalom.
We need you, God.
Amen.
