What shall we say about such wonderful things as these?
If God is for us, who can ever be against us?
Since God did not spare even his own Son
but gave him up for us all,
won’t he also give us everything else?
—Romans 8:31, 21 (NLT)
This affirmation can be led by two readers who both read the headings in bold print, and then alternate reading the statements of affirmation in each section. Alternatively, the congregation could participate by reading the refrain “If God is for us” and the leader(s) could read the statements of affirmation.
If God is for us:
we are forgiven, clean, made holy
we have life in Jesus
we walk in freedom and light
we face the future with hope.
If God is for us:
we can hold our head high
we can bring order to the chaos
we can live with the diagnosis
we can open our hearts to love without fear.
If God is for us:
nothing can stand against us
nothing will overcome us
nothing will destroy us
no storm will overtake us.
If God is for us:
God’s everlasting love cannot be taken away
God’s image in us cannot be denied
God’s presence cannot be removed from us
God’s peace will protect us.
If God is for us:
lavish grace is ours
abundant gifts are ours
eternal promises are ours.
Our God is for us!
Thanks be to God.
Amen.
