Artist Statement
These monoprints were made using a gel plate and acrylic paint. The series is inspired by the biblical description of the Holy Spirit's manifestation at Pentecost as "what seemed to be tongues of fire" and a line from the poem "Little Gidding" by T.S. Eliot: "The dove descending breaks the air / With flame of incandescent terror." The liturgical color of Pentecost is red and that along with gold are the colors that unite the series.
